âIf I learn anything new, Iâll be sure to tell you as soon as possible. But please rest here until dinner at least,â Lekomya said as he left the room.
Once he was gone Friede immediately began thinking of how to sneak out of the palace. Unfortunately, she was currently in Lekomyaâs office, which was only a few doors down from the empressâs. It was one of the most heavily guarded areas of the palace. Thereâs no way Iâll make it down the hallway...so what about the window? The garden probably isnât as well guarded. Lekomyaâs office was on the second floor, so sheâd be able to cover a lot of distance with her first jump.
As she prepared to make her escape, Friede suddenly heard a knock on her window.
âMind if I come in, Astral Fencerâs daughter?â
âHuh?â
Even though this was the second floor, a well-dressed young man was standing outside the window.
âWho are you?â
Friede opened the window, and the young man slipped inside. His abnormal strength and agility marked him as a demon, even though he looked human. He flashed Friede a handsome smile and straightened his tuxedo, which vaguely resembled that of a butlerâs.
âItâs a myth that we can only enter buildings weâve been invited into, but I thought it would be polite to ask regardless. Besides, I donât want Lady Shallier scolding me again.â
âOnly enter buildings youâve been invited into?â
Oh yeah, I heard people used to believe that about vampires. Itâs not true, of course.
âAre you a demon then?â
âYes, a proud member of the vampire race. The nameâs Thuka.â He gave a polite bow. âYouâre Friede, right? I can smell werewolf blood in you... Your fatherâs blood.â
âYep. Am I going to meet a single person here who doesnât know my dad?â
âI wouldnât bet on it. Half the people in this country have some kind of connection to him. Anyway, I finally have a chance to repay my debt to him, and thereâs no way Iâm letting it slip past me.â
âDad did something for you too, then?â
Thuka ignored Friedeâs question and asked, âWould finding Michaâs location count as repaying our debts?â
âAbsolutely!â Friede exclaimed.
